This is a quote from Marcus Mabry, who wrote a biography of Condoleeza Rice:

She believes that God has already set a path for each of us.  She does not believe in planning. Condoleeza Rice has not had a long-term goal since she failed in her only long-term goal — which was to be a concert pianist. She has not decided, as she told me for the book, what she’s going to do in Jan. 2009.

My first reaction was wow, that's sad.  I read it to Nelson and he said, "So?"  Then I thought, I'm not much of a planner, either.  I have never had a long-term goal.  Ever.

Then I thought, it fits with the way this White House works: no plans, no long-term lookahead.
