"I think being a woman is like being Irish." — Iris Murdoch
God takes a beating on a Starbucks' cup — will He recover?
Of course a Catholic mother-of-three had to blow her stack. She got a cup of coffee from Starbucks and found this message on the side [emphasis added]
There are people who look for ways to feel offended. I don't know if Catholics are more that way than others... maybe it bugs me because I was raised Catholic, and well, let's not go there.
It reminds me of when my older brother gave me a shirt that read Catholic Kids Gone Bad — which I thought was *cute*, until some thick woman passed me on the street and said with heavy judgmental sarcasm, "Oh, that's nice." I was never able to wear the shirt again.
Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure.I admit, I could have lived without that "as cognitive beings" phrase. It reads a lot better without it, but I'm not going to sue Starbucks for errors of style.
